Dear Parents,
Long Live Rippledown; what a fantastic
week we spent at Rippledown this year.
Our cunning plan of daily long walks worked a treat; I managed at least
six hours sleep every night. I am sure that the children have told you all
about their escapades; hopefully, you have seen the blogs and no doubt heard me
singing the success of the week from the BISB roof top. I shall organise a ‘Rippledown photos and
videos’ usb stick for you to copy from – is there a parent who would be willing
to organise the distribution of this?
Last weeks’ ’forced marches’ are now being followed by
‘forced revision’! On Tuesday, the
pupils wrote a persuasive text and are now in the throes of mastering
explanation texts. Their task is to
explain the catalogue of errors that resulted in the sinking of The
Titanic. We have been studying in detail
the enquiry that was held after the disaster.
We constructed our own scientific demonstration, with the aid of Lego
people, ice-trays and water, of the water displacing the air in the water tight
compartments; The Titanic was designed to stay afloat if four of these
compartments filled, however, in the collision with the iceberg, five
compartments were damaged.
The ‘boot camp’ continued with a daily
mental maths workout of previous years’ examination KS3 papers; the irritating,
monotonous voice of the examination presenter is slowly driving us all to
distraction! Despite this, the results are promising, so we shall keep
practising.
Another busy and exciting week ahead of
us with a visit from the author and illustrator Shoo Rayner; we are hoping that
he will be willing to run an art workshop with our budding artists.
I look forward to meeting you all at our
International Day tomorrow; I plan to purchase enough culinary goodies to fill
my freezer, so that I do not have to cook during the run-up to the end of year
examinations!
Full steam ahead!
Kind Regards,
Mrs T
