The view was astounding it was even better in the driver’s seat. We kept staring and talking about it until we started hearing some roar. It kept coming time to time. Though the roars were mysteriously eerie; we got engrossed in the foot tapping music by Abba that played on the radio. Having fun and singing along we were in our own world. When out of the blue we heard a loud “RROOOAAR!” which really stopped everything. Everyone including me looked around when suddenly I saw a white storm or no it was an avalanche!!!!!!!! It was lucky we were quite a distance away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rain was hammering down and a chilly stream poured across my smeared face. I didn’t have a clue about where he was but I was aware of his presence.

A brooding mist crept low, above the ground, prowling around us, slithering over our feet. The trees stood silent and dark, hiding what might lay behind, watching and waiting. Then suddenly out of the blue came a silent figure. You could see his knife blazing in the moonlight. My mouth was twisted in a scream that never came out. I knew that the time had come, that only my luck could save me now.

Mysterious Marvel

I was amongst the crowd at a monotonous party on a pitch black night. Somehow, I needed to get away. Thinking, I stared at the dull, depressing world outside. “How could this be worse?” Suddenly, out of the blue, a caravan appeared. A caravan with wings! I needed an excuse. “I am just going to wash my hands, OK?” I darted downstairs and stepped outside, leaving the relentless party behind. Hoping it was not locked, I approached the enchanting object. Unfortunately, my fears came true. Then, a silver gleam caught my eye. The key fitted perfectly. What could be waiting behind this door?

SABOTAGED

...The boat was sinking, “I was SABOTAGED!” panic and anger raced through my veins. All I had for food was the tiny trout I had caught at dusk yesterday.                                                                                                My water supply was running low, about half an hour later my boat met its death on the sea bed, I had to lie on the water surface to stay alive.                                                                                                                   Then without warning a helicopter drifted over my head, I was yelling as hard as I could, it was useless they couldn't hear or see me. Suddenly out of the blue a speed boat popped out, “I am saved” I thought to myself.

Home School Book 1st February 2013

Dear Parents,

Unfortunately several children have been absent this week due to sickness; I do hope to see all their smiling and healthy faces on Monday morning.

The answering of comprehension questions is still uppermost in our thoughts; we spent a considerable amount of time this week analysing and comparing weak and strong responses to different types of questions; mastering this skill takes time, practice and effort – a small improvement each week is the target that all pupils should  be working towards.

We battled the driving rain and wind as we set off on our outing to the Princess Elisabeth Ice Station, after having negotiated platform and metro line changes; we made it to our destination.  The Ice Station was most impressive; the pupils were particularly delighted with the bunk bed arrangement in the sleeping quarters, and I am sure, that if it were possible, they would have forced me to organise an overnight stay there! We then compared the Ice Station facilities with those of Ernest Shackleton’s base camp on Elephant Island.  As part of ‘Extraordinary People’ week, we studied Ernest Shackleton’s formidable leadership skills; an example to us all.  I even heard his name mentioned during our ‘BISB basement’ work-out session when some of the children wanted to give-up and collapse!

 

We have now finished watching ‘The Merchant of Venice’; I am confident that the children have a sound understanding of the many subplots. Work on our display has been furious; calligraphy, sketching, dressmaking, casket decorating and gondola designing – brilliant team work!

In mathematics, our focus was polygons:  angles at a point, on a straight line, in a triangle, interior and exterior angles.  The homework this week will include this and for some children, symmetry (symmetry has not been covered in class). Also, some children will be expected to complete additional preparation for next week’s mathematics’ lessons.

I find it difficult to believe that we only have one more week before half-term – how time flies!

I do not expect you to understand everything at this level, however, it would be really helpful if you  could have a grasp of the concepts and terminology, before we study them in greater detail next week.
